This workshop is for the serious and semi-serious landscape/outdoor photographer.

Former Tellurider and director of yesteryear’s Autumn Eye, Bill Ellzey, returns this fall to lead a 3-day digital photography workshop. Telluride’s surroundings are the most spectacular autumn color extravaganza in the four corners region.  We’ve got mountains, lakes, streams, ghost towns, not to mention the charming town itself, all in the golden setting of autumn.

Since this is a 3-day workshop, there’s a lot to do in a short time. We’ll be shooting every day.  The first half day, though, we want to make sure everyone is familiar enough with their tools (camera, lenses, tripod, accessories) to maximize their time in the field.  Some little used yet very handy exposure techniques when shooting in any of the auto modes will be revealed.  After lunch I’ll critique 5 images per person that participants bring on a thumb drive or CD or as prints. During critiques important topics are addressed like composition, light direction and quality, visual impact, mood, and so on. These critiques will end in plenty of time for us to get out to the prime shooting location for the magic evening light.

The second day we’re up early and on location for sunrise light.  We shoot for several hours and return to town for lunch, downloading images, direction on importing, editing, organizing and making basic tweaks in Photoshop Lightroom. We head out again for afternoon/evening light and shoot until dark.

The third day also begins early in order to be on location for sunrise and shooting into mid morning.  Then it’s back to town for downloading, etc. until lunch.  After lunch there’s more picture processing and selecting images for a group slide show and critique that will begin at 3 o’clock and end the workshop.
